The Night Lights

Hey people there, I’m back with this new story of night life…. And beautiful art work, So let’s start.

Midnight was approaching, the giant buildings fall silent, but the loudness of young people, college students spilling out of the bar, dark suited man racing across diagonal crossing for the last trains to the villages. Two of the policemen patrol the streets with tense expression. The city plays by its own rules at time like this. The date is about to change. Now at the restaurant, the people have occupied all the tables and are almost filled. A girl sitting by the front window on a four-person table, taking sips of the coffee from the cup of coffee. She has black-grey hair, long and straight, little make-up, no jewelry, and wearing blue with checks designed top and blue jeans with the black branded purse, the faded sneakers from repeated washing. Her phone was kept besides the cup tray on the window table.

She was sighting all the rush at this hour, thinking of something important. She reaches out at regular intervals brings up the coffee cup to her mouth, the music was playing at low volume. Many different kinds of people are taking meals and drinking coffee and enjoying their time at this late-night restaurant, and she raises her hand to glance at the watch to see the time. Not that she was waiting for anyone as she doesn’t look around the restaurant front door. She was just there for time to pass, from the window she can look outside the restaurant on the busy street. Even at this time, street is bright and filled with the people coming and going with a purpose and without a purpose, people trying to hold time back and people trying to urge it forward. She was intensely got jumbled in this thought of the people in the streets with taking nice measured timing for sip of the coffee.

This has been a perfect portrait for my sketch, so as usual I started gathering my sketch tools and sat on the table. I started with the frame of the scene that is the outer picture consisting of the giant building and the traffic, the bright lights, the people rushing in and out of the cafe, bars and restaurant. Then the part inside the window is sketched to get the picture of the sketch that it is perfect or not. After all the rough sketching is being done, it’s time giving the this rough work to give the life by using the graphite pencil of higher grades, blending stumps for smudging some parts of the sketch for smoothing it and the eraser for getting better contrast of the sketch. The building has windows which needs to be seen fading out and is done with lowering the pencil grades and smoothing them after that the peoples are drawn with lighter grades and then the details are added with the higher grades. And other things such as traffics and the sign boards etc are drawn with same manner.

The second part was the girl sitting inside the restaurant, the face should be aligned properly as it appears that she is watching outside the window while drinking coffee from the cup, and for that eyes should be drawn perfectly. The top she wore has too many details in it and was a challenge for me get as much as I can for a perfect picture to visualize. The hands, fingers, the rings in the fingers and the purse rest on her lap, all are drawn with details especially the hand sleeves took much of my time. At last the hair are sketched and some highlights are given to the face. After all the work, it’s time for final touch-ups in the sketch.

That’s it for this blog, hope uh guys going to like and please do share and comment, it’s totally free.
